A Pain Management Model Based on Buddhist teaching

Abstract
This paper is qualitative study which bases on documentary studies and interviews. Interview collected from two groups of informants : medical cooperator and specialist who experienced physical pain. The objectives of this paper are: 1) to study the concept of physical pains from Buddhist perspective, 2) to study model of physical pain management from Buddhist perspective, and 3) to propose Buddhist model of physical
pain management. As a result, the model of physical pain management based on Buddhist teaching
can be divided into three processes: 1) Preparation : studying and practice Dhamma to realize the nature of life, 2) Dealing or facing to pain: being mindful of the feeling when one is experiencing pain, tolerance, diverting feeing from pain by other activities, such as chanting and sharing loving kindness, and 3) Detachment : employing Buddhist practice to deal with pain by detaching physical pain from the mind until all pains have been released.
