Conjunctive Cohesion in Myanmar Folktales

Abstract

This article aims to study the categorization and frequency of cohesion with cohesive conjunctions in Myanmar folktales by applying the data from the collection which are composed by Nuyin, totaling 30 stories. The results showed that there were six categories of cohesive conjunction, arranged in order of their frequencies from the most to the least, namely; sequence of time conjunction (65%) which most frequently appeared since the characteristics of the text of Nuyin's Myanmar tale was told in chronological order for listeners and readers to easily understand, followed by cause and effect conjunction (12.27%), purposive conjunction (8.31%), conditional conjunction (6.11%), concessive conjunction (4.93%) and contrastive conjunction (3.38%), respectively.
