The Story of Mahajanaka by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great Its Significance in Driving the King’s Thoughts and Strategies for the Country’s Development

Abstract

            This research aimed to study the significance of The Story of Mahajanaka, composed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, in driving the King’s thoughts and strategies for the country’s development (2017-2036). The researcher used literature and society, intertextuality,  His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great ’s thoughts on the country’s development, and the government’s strategies for developing the country as conceptual frameworks for analysis. The result revealed that The Story of Mahajanaka was significant in driving the King’s thoughts and strategies for the country’s development by presenting the King’s important thoughts to develop Thai citizens and Thai society, elaborating the thoughts to the general public, and pointing out the thoughts that were practical and successful. The Story of Mahajanaka contributed to the driving of the government’s strategies for developing the country by raising people’s awareness as well as illustrating the five most prominent examples of the 10 aspects of the national strategic framework including first, the development and improvement of human resources. The second aspect was a sustainable, environmentally-friendly development, followed by national stability leading to national prosperity as the third aspect. The fourth aspect was governmental management, corruption deterrence, and good governance in Thai society. The final aspect was the international co-operation for further development. The Story of Mahajanaka played a vitally crucial role in maintaining and pertaining the nation’s development and stability, and it could also benefit Thai people according to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great’s thoughts.  It could also reflect his versatile capability which showed that he was a great developer, a righteous king, and an artist who combined literature and Buddhism which is Thailand’s cultural legacy, in order to achieve a genuinely prosperous nation.
