Thai-English Translation Problems and Errors of the 2nd Year Business English Majors of Buriram Rajabhat University

Abstract
The objectives of the study were: 1) to examine opinions about problems in translating Thai to English of the 2nd year Business English majors of Buriram Rajabhat University, and 2) to analyze translation errors in translating Thai to English of the 2nd year Business English majors of Buriram Rajabhat University. The sample group consisted of 67 students from the 2nd year Business English major of Buriram Rajabhat University. Data were collected using sets of questionnaire form, a translation test, and a translation error record table. The statistics used in the quantitative data analysis included percentage, Mean, and Standard Deviation. The qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis. The results regarding translation problems showed that the students viewed that they had problems with translating idioms and proverbs at the highest level (3.77), followed by problems with translating sentences with polysemous vocabulary (3.74), and problems with translating phrasal verb (3.59) and tenses (3.59), respectively. From the translation errors analysis from the translation test revealed that the students had the translation errors regarding grammar the most, especially errors with translating tenses (68.91%), followed by errors with choosing proper vocabulary to fit with the context (24.39%), and errors with using formal vocabulary at the word level (6.7%), respectively.
