The Study of Classical Guitar Techniques for Skill development : a Case Study of Etude No.17, Op.29 by Fernando Sor

Abstract

It is widely accepted that etudes are essential for the musical skill development which Etude Op.29, No.17 by Fernando Sor is one of the essential ones, a most played musical piece. It can be tenable to conduct a thorough study of the piece from which the musical elements and techniques can be observed. Having two main sections with nearly all sentences having equal length asserts to classical standards. The specific characteristics of Etude Op.29, No.17 are shown in the exposition and development, in tandem with the use of harmonic sequence, and contrapunctal technique. While the use of the former promotes coherence of a series of tonicisation, the latter also creates polyphonic textures sufficiently to yield a positive consequence.
