A Study of Intangible Cultural Heritage: The Case Study of Nongkatao Subdistrict, Nakornthai District, Phitsanulok Province

Abstract

               The purpose of this research was designed to survey the cultural heritage knowledge of  a community in Nongkatao subdistrict, Nakornthai district, Phitsanulok province.The qualitative research method by using Community Based Research (CBR) was used. This method referred to the process that brought a variety of participants who were the researchers and community members. Data was collected by conducting oral history interviews and field observations. The findings of this research found that there were four kinds of folk literature and language data in Nongkatao subdistrict, Nakornthai district, Phitsanulok province: 1.folktales 2. folk musics 3.chanting ceremonies and 4.urban legends.  There was one story of the data in performing arts: Mor Lam about telling story in poem. There were three data in social practices, a rite or traditional and festival ceremonies: 1. social practices 2. traditional and festival ceremonies and 3. rites concerning rural livelihoods. There were four kinds of the data in knowledge and practices concerning nature and universe: 1. stories of astrology 2. stories of rural beliefs 3. kinds of local cuisines and 4. kind of indigenous medicine. There were four kinds of traditional craftsman: 1. kinds of wicker 2. kind of wood carving 3. kinds of folk arts and 4. kinds of wisdom products in Nongkatao community members. There were kinds of traditional play in folk sports and traditional games.
