The Narratology of 'Nirat Wang Lang'

Abstract

           This study aims to analyze the relation between narrators and narration techniques in  ‘Nirat Wang Lang’ which comprises 8 versions composed by 5 poets of Rattanakosin period. As for research methodology, this study has applied the theories of Narratology and stylistics as the main tool to analyze data sources. It founds that the representations of ‘Rear palace’ in this term could be categorized as a supporter, a warrior and a symbol of trinity. Such images are variously narrated with different purpose and statuses of narrators. There are two types of words employed to describe the characteristics of rear palace and sorrowfulness of poets. This causes the perception of ‘Wang Lang’ historical background and significances being shaped by poets narration within travelogue poem  structure.
