Abstract

This research study aims to compare the situations in the Thai tale “Kaew Na Ma” to those in the Chinese annals imitation novel “Jeng Hong Hao” to reflect that the author of the Chinese annals imitation novel “Jeng Hong Hao” could have been influenced by the contents of the Thai tale “Kaew Na Ma”.  The analysis reveals 6 comparable situations: 1) The situation in which the male and female protagonists first meet each other; 2) The situation in which the female protagonist meets a guru and receives fighting skills and magic items from the guru; 3) The situation in which the female protagonist is imprisoned;  4) The situation in which the male protagonist refuses to accept the female protagonist’s first son as his own; 5) The situation in which the female protagonist gives birth to a son or a daughter during a battle; and 6) The situation in which the son or the daughter is separated from the male and female protagonists.  It could, therefore, be assumed that the author of the Chinese annals imitation novel “Jeng Hong Hao” could have been influenced by the Thai tale  “Kaew Na Ma”.
