Development of safety agriculture curriculum as new agricultural theory to enhance life skills and professional skills for elementary school students in Phetchabun province

Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop a safe agriculture curriculum as the new agricultural theory approach to enhance life skills and vocational skills for primary school students in Phetchabun province. The creation and development process were divided into 3 steps as follows. Step 1: Create and find quality, safe agriculture curriculum using focus groups and interviews with farmers and agricultural academics. After that, a draft agricultural safety curriculum was drafted and presented to experts to check the appropriateness of the curriculum and find its effectiveness with 30 non-sample Grade 6 students. Step 2: Test the agricultural safety curriculum with 30 sample Grade 6 students through purposive sampling using an experimental design of one group posttest and one group pretest-posttest. Step 3: Evaluate the use of the safe agriculture curriculum by evaluating student satisfaction with participating in learning activities.

The results showed that Step 1: The developed safe agriculture curriculum had an efficiency of E1/E2 equal to 82.53/80.13, thus enhancing life skills and professional skills for Grade 6 students. Step 2: Results of the agricultural safety curriculum in terms of student academic achievement before and after implementation, after studying, the average score was significantly higher than before, at the .01 level. After the experiment, life skills and professional skills for Grade 6 students were significantly higher than before, at the .01 level. Step 3: Grade 6 students' opinions on participating in the learning activities of the agricultural safety curriculum were at the highest level ( = 4.54, SD = 0.63).
