Debt Problems of Thai Agriculturist

Abstract

Agriculture has been a profession of Thai people for a long time from the past to the present. Most of the population of Thailand is engaged in agriculture. Agricultural produce has long been the country's highest-grossing export. This article aimed to classify and describe the debt problem of Thai farmers and presented a direct approach to managing the debt problems of Thai farmers.

This paper was a documentary review and a core analysis of government policy and related research.  Thematic analysis was applied for compiling data and analyzing the contents to draw conclusions and make recommendations for debt burden approaches.

          It was found that the debt problem of Thai farmers was mainly caused by (1) the lifestyle behaviors of farmers that had changed in the direction of Western social and cultural materialism
(2) the government's erroneous policies in terms of encouraging farmers to engage in commercial monoculture (3) Inappropriate management on populist policy affected to heavy burden debt accumulation.

          Suggestions:(1) Changing the behavior of farmers. (2) Enhancing modern agricultural knowledge and household economics. (3) Reducing unnecessary expenditures. (4) The government should formulate agricultural policy in a self-sufficient way. (5) Supporting the community enterprises (6) Adhere to the idea of ​​His Majesty King Rama IX on Sufficiency Economy.
