Abstract

This article aims to present approaches for applying Buddhist psychological principles to enhance the quality of life of employees in the service industry. Employees in this sector encounter numerous challenges, including serving diverse customer groups, coping with workplace pressures, and maintaining a healthy work–life balance. Buddhist psychology integrates Buddhist teachings with psychological science and emphasizes mental development as a pathway to inner well-being, emotional stability, and wisdom. The article discusses key Buddhist psychological principles that contribute to employee development. Mindfulness promotes self-awareness and effective emotional regulation; concentration enhances attention and work performance; and wisdom fosters a balanced and appropriate understanding of life and work. In addition, the article highlights strategies for managing emotions and occupational stress through loving-kindness meditation, emotional awareness, and the cultivation of patience (Khanti). It also emphasizes the development of positive workplace relationships through the application of the Four Sublime States of Mind (Brahmaviharas) and the Four Bases of Social Harmony (Sangahavatthu).

The application of Buddhist psychological principles contributes positively to organizational effectiveness by improving employee performance, reducing turnover intentions, enhancing service quality, and fostering a strong organizational culture. These outcomes support organizational resilience and long-term business sustainability, particularly in the context of economic uncertainty and rapid technological change.
