Abstract

This article presents Ānāpānasati (mindfulness of breathing) as a pathway for developing Buddhist psychological wisdom among young people in the digital age. Through a review of relevant literature and an analysis of academic perspectives, the study found that Ānāpānasati is a simple, accessible, and practical contemplative practice that aligns well with contemporary lifestyles. Regular practice contributes to improved emotional regulation, stress reduction, enhanced concentration, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving abilities. Furthermore, Ānāpānasati supports personal development through the framework of the Threefold Training (Tri-sikkhā), comprising morality (sīla), concentration (samādhi), and wisdom (paññā). The practice facilitates a progression from mental calmness to insight into the true nature of life, consistent with the principles of the Four Noble Truths. For young people facing the challenges of rapid social change, mental distraction, and technological pressures, Ānāpānasati serves as an effective tool for cultivating life balance, promoting psychological well-being, and fostering wisdom. The article concludes that Ānāpānasati is a valuable approach to developing Buddhist psychological wisdom in modern society, enabling individuals to live mindfully and respond effectively to the complexities and challenges of the contemporary world.
