Buddhist Psychology Factors as Predictors of Psychological Immunity of Hospital Personnel

Abstract

           The objectives of this research were 1. to study the influence of Buddhist-psychological factors on prediction of the mental immunity; 2. to study the relationship between Buddhist-psychological factors and the mental immunity; and 3. to study the level of mental immunity. The study was a quantitative research in nature, using a questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 144 by simple random sampling method respondents as the personnel of Sai Noi Hospital, Sai Noi District, Nonthaburi Province. For analyzing data, the statistics including descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis was employed.

             Findings of the study were as follows:

1. Psychological factors with an influence on predicting mental immunity level of hospital personnel at statistical significance at the .05 level consisted of 3 factors ranked from the most influencing factors to the least influencing factors, namely, flexibility, real perception, and optimism with these 3 factors being predictable together on the mental immunity of hospital personnel at 43.9 percent.
2. The relationship between Buddhist Psychological factors and the mental immunity of hospital personnel revealed that Buddhist Psychological factors including mindfulness and positive psychology had a positive relationship with mental immunity at a low to moderate level with a statistical significance at the .05 level.
3. Hospital personnel had the overall level of mental immunity ( = 3.63, S.D. = .338) at a high level, while considering each aspect, it was found that the aspect of mental strength (toughness) was the highest average of  = 3.76, S.D. = .394, followed by the aspect of being able to fight problems and obstacles (fight) as  = 3.66, S.D. = .446), and the aspect of faith and good morale (spirit) was equal to  = 3.33, S.D. = .437 at a moderate level.
