Enhancing Community-Based Tourism Through Services Standard Development and Community Participation: A Case Study of the Andaman Southern Provinces in Thailand

Abstract

This article aims to (1) study the level and characteristics of service standards in community tourism in the Andaman coast southern provinces, (2) assess the level of community participation in community tourism development in the study area, (3) analyze the relationship between service standards and community participation towards the economic growth of the community, (4) develop and propose a model for promoting community tourism that is appropriate to the context of the Andaman Coast Southern Provinces, and 5) propose guidelines for developing service standards and community participation to enhance the quality of tourism and sustainability of the community in the long term. This research was a mixed-methods study. The sample group consisted of 600 committee members, members, and people involved in community tourism areas, 30 Key contributors.The statistics used for analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and structural equation modeling statistics.The research results found that (1) overall at the highest level (2) with index values was χ²/df = 0.111, CFI = 1.000, GFI = 1.000, AGFI = 0.999, RMSEA =0.000 และ SRMR=0.000. (3) All 7 sub-components have a statistically significant positive relationship at the .01 level (p< .01). (4) The model is appropriate to the empirical data and (5) it is used as a guideline and development with support from both the government, business sector and local people.
