Factors influencing the adoption of GAP-based agricultural technology and its effect on coconut production efficiency among farmers in Thapsakea District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-based technology and its effect on coconut production efficiency among farmers in Thap Sakae District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The objectives included examining the level of GAP technology adoption, personal characteristics of farmers, GAP-aligned farming practices, production efficiency, and the influence of these factors on production outcomes. A quantitative research approach was employed using a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. The sample consisted of 400 coconut farmers selected through convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the General Linear Model (GLM).
The findings revealed that personal factors, particularly age (P = 0.006), significantly affected coconut production efficiency, while gender, education, family labor, income from other sources, farm size, and GAP compliance did not. In terms of GAP technology adoption, several components showed a statistically significant impact on production efficiency, including land use (P = 0.022), use of hazardous substances (P = 0.002), production process management (P = 0.026), and data recording (P = 0.040). However, water source management (P = 0.614) and post-harvest practices (P = 0.421) were not statistically significant. Additionally, the combined model showed that adoption of GAP technology had a significant effect on production efficiency (P = 0.003), whereas adherence to GAP-aligned production practices did not (P = 0.479). The model accounted for 17% of the variance in coconut production efficiency (Adjusted R² = 0.170).
