Guidelines for increasing the efficiency of medical supply warehouses using the ABC Analysis method. A case study of a private hospital in Bangkok

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the problems and causes affecting the medical supply management system and 2) study the methods for increasing the efficiency of medical supply management through the ABC Analysis method. This research was qualitative, collecting data from key informants: one medical supply manager, one medical supply head, five medical supply officers, and one academic with expertise in medical supply management. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participatory observation, problem analysis using a fishbone diagram, and product grouping based on the value and volume of medical supply withdrawals over the past year.
The study found that Group A had 16 items, valued at 15,723,016.39 baht; Group B had 18 items, valued at 4,433,106.97 baht; and Group C had 26 items, valued at 2,231,671.88 baht. The evaluation of performance based on logistics indicators (ILPI) for warehouse management (ILPI6) found that the average storage period (ILPI6T) decreased from 23 days to 17 days, and the inventory accuracy (ILPI6R) increased from 87.52 percent to 99.96 percent, demonstrating improvements in the speed and accuracy of medical supply management, resulting in more efficient operations and tangible cost reductions.
