Self -Directed Learning : SDL
Keywords:
Self-Directed Learning, Self-Regulation Learning, Self-Direction for Lifelong LearningAbstract
In the present era, learning is no longer confined to the classroom. Self-Directed Learning (SDL) has gained increasing attention as it is a skill that helps individuals develop modern knowledge and capabilities in the face of social, economic, political, and cultural changes. Pursuing self-directed knowledge has thus become crucial for adapting to globalization.
Educators hold the fundamental belief that every individual has the potential for continuous self-development. Learning, therefore, does not need to be linked solely to formal schooling. Individuals can learn from experiences, diverse environments, and various sources that cater to their specific needs.
Self-Directed Learning (SDL) is a process whereby individuals can set their learning objectives, plan and control their learning processes, and evaluate their own learning outcomes without relying on teachers or instructors. This concept emphasizes an individual's ability to manage and direct their own learning, which can enhance the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.
