Community’s Learning Process for Sustainable Solid Waste Management A Case Study: A Ban Rang Phlap Community, Banpong District, Ratchaburi Province.

Abstract

The primary objective of this qualitative research was to study the community’s learning process for sustainable solid waste management by used descriptive phenomenology, society aims to understand and find community’s learning processes for sustainable solid waste management. Data collection consisted by depth interviews, non-participation observation, focus group and documentary study, and data was analyzed using qualitative research methodology and validation of qualitative data analysis by data triangulation, investigator triangulation and methodological triangulation from a case study of Ban Rang Phlap Community Moo 1, Banpong District, Ratchaburi Province. Case Study selected by purposive sampling comprised 16 key informants, including 2 community leaders, 8 community mainstay, 4 youths and 2 members within community.

          The results showed that community’s learning process for sustainable solid waste management consists of 5 steps; In addition, Community’s learning process start form Step 1) Problem Awareness Stage, Step 2) Step to mobilize opinions on common problems; Furthermore, community is think and find solutions together leads to Step 3) joint to resolve the problem, Learning and practice, but when the practice is tried, it is not yet successful, leads to Step 4) To understand and apply knowledge to be consistent and appropriate to community context and try to successfully practice and leads to step 5) To transfer knowledge for sustainability, it is practiced to ensure that it has the potential and then achieves it. Then the transmission occurred, along with the exchange of knowledge with other communities. When knowledge is exchanged, the community always gains new knowledge, the community is ready for change. Therefore, the understanding is known to apply the knowledge that has been applied, thus going back to the 4th stage, understanding, and adapting it, which is a continuous community’s learning process that is always ready for new changes. The learning process stage can always go back to the problem awareness stage. When a community has new problems or changes in areas such as the covid-19 pandemic or from the expectation that there may be a problem with the same littering. The learning process will be able to solve problems and manage waste sustainably.
