Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the level of the roles of Buddhist monks in community development in the area of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province: A case study of moo 12, Likhit village and compare the level of the roles of Buddhist monks in community development in the area of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province: A case study of moo 12, Likhit village, classified by personal factors as gender, age, education level, work experience, income level and the period of habitation in the community. The population of this research were 8,608 people who live in the area of Moo 12, Likhit Village, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. The sample size was obtained by Taro  Yamane’s formula. A total of 382 respondents were obtained. The data were collected by accidental sampling using questionnaire survey. The statistics for data analysis were frequency, mean, standard deviation, and hypotheses test statistics (t-test), F-test and post hoc comparisons by Scheffe’s method at a statistical significance level of .05.

The research findings were as follows:

  1. The personal data of the respondents revealed that most of the respondents were males, of 219 people or 57.3 % followed by females, of 163 people or 42.7 %, respectively, in the age of between 21-30 years old of 151 people or 39.5 %, at the education level of High School or Certificate of Vocational Education of 99 people or 25.9 %, personnel in private companies of 140 people or 36.6 %, had income at between 25,001-30,000 Baht of 83 people or 21.7% and and the period of habitation in the community between 21-25 years of 64 people or 16.8%.
  1. The level of the roles of Buddhist monks in community development in the area of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province: A case study of moo 12, Likhit village, was, overall, at a high level. ( = 3.50, S.D. = .53.),  the highest mean was in Cultural factor (gif.latex?\bar{X}=4.08, S.D. gif.latex?\bar{X}= .68), followed by  Social factors (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 4.00, S.D. gif.latex?\bar{X}= .56), Public Health factors (gif.latex?\bar{X}=3.25, S.D.=gif.latex?\bar{X}.55), and the least was in Economics factor      (gif.latex?\bar{X}=2.95, S.D.gif.latex?\bar{X}= .46), respectively.
  2. The comparisons of the the level of the roles of Buddhist monks in community development in the area of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province: A case study of moo 12, Likhit village classified by personal factors, as gender, age, education level, occupation,  income level and the period of habitation in the community were, overall, found to have difference in the level of the roles of Buddhist monks in community development in the area of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province: A case study of moo 12, Likhit village at a statistical significance level of .05.
