Abstract

Background:  COVID-19 pandemic affects diabetic patients, therefore the service model has been adjusted. The researcher is interested in studying such effects.

Objective: Compare the quality of care and clinical outcomes in type 2 diabetes patients before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: A cross-sectional and observational retrospective study. Compare the quality of care with the Ministry of Public Health's indicators standards. Clinical outcomes were compared using the Wilcoxon Matched Pairs signed-rank test because the data were unevenly distributed.

Results: Two hundred and eleven participants reported a statistically significant decrease in glycemic index (HbA1c 8.05 and 8.00%, respectively, p-value 0.04), but not clinically significant. There was no statistically significant difference in mean glucose levels (FBS 142 and 146 mg/dL, respectively, p-value 0.59). The quality of care decreased and failed to meet the criteria for annual complication screening and the occurrence of acute complications. This was different from before the COVID-19 pandemic that passed all indicators.
Conclusion
:  The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on diabetic patients resulted in a decline in the quality of care with no difference in clinical outcomes.
