Abstract
การแพทย์แผนไทยเป็นการแพทย์ที่ดูแลสุขภาพคนไทยมานานนับพันปี จากหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ พบว่ามีการใช้ยาจากสมุนไพรในการรักษาโรคในอาโรคยศาลากว่า 100 แห่ง ซึ่งสร้างในสมัยพระเจ้าชัยวรมันที่ 7 ของอาณาจักรขอม ในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของไทยมาตั้งแต่ก่อนตั้งกรุงสุโขทัย ในยุคสุโขทัยและรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนต้น มีการรวบรวม สังคายนา บันทึกองค์ความรู้การแพทย์แผนไทย ตำรับยาไทย การนวดไทยเป็นจารึก คัมภีร์ และตำราการแพทย์แผนไทย ต่าง ๆ จนมาถึงสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 เมื่อมีการก่อตั้งโรงพยาบาลศิริราช ซึ่งเป็นโรงพยาบาลการแพทย์แผนตะวันตก แห่งแรกของประเทศในปี พ.ศ. 2430 ทำให้ การแพทย์แผนตะวันตกเริ่มเข้ามามีบทบาทเต็มที่ในระบบการแพทย์และสาธารณสุขของประเทศ ขณะที่บทบาท ของการแพทย์แผนไทยในการดูแลสุขภาพคนไทยลดน้อยลง
