A STUDY AND ENHANCING PEACE OF MIND AMOMG ADOLESCENCE THROUGH INTEGRATIVE INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to 1) Study the meaning and components of adolescents’ peace of mind, 2) Confirm the components of adolescents’ peace of mind, and 3) Examine the effects of an individual counseling program on enhancing adolescents’ peace of mind. A mixed methods research design with a sequential exploratory design was employed in three phases. Phase 1 studied the phenomenon among 15 upper secondary school students aged 16 - 18 years. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed through content and thematic analysis. Phase 2 developed a 40-item, five-point rating scale and examined its components with 400 participants using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Phase 3 implemented a nine-session individual counseling program with 10 students who had low peace of mind scores, divided into an experimental group and a control group of five students each. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, repeated measures ANOVA, and effect size. The results revealed that adolescents’ peace of mind was an internal balance that enabled them to appropriately manage emotions, thoughts, and problems. It consisted of eight components. The scale showed good quality, with KMO = .92, χ²/df = 1.87, CFI = .96, TLI = .95, RMSEA = .045, SRMR = .041, and = .94. The program had an index of item-objective congruence ranging from .80 to 1.00. After the experiment, the experimental group had significantly higher scores at the .05 level, and the follow-up scores remained high. The findings indicate that peace of mind can be assessed and enhanced through individual counseling and applied systematically in student support systems.
