THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SOCIAL ENGINEER IDEA LAB CARD SET IN ENHANCING CREATIVE THINKING SKILLS AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS OF CHULABHORN ROYAL ACADEMY

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) To investigate the effectiveness of the Social Engineer Idea Lab Card Set in promoting creative thinking skills among medical students, and 2) To examine the satisfaction levels of the students toward learning through this innovative card set. The study utilized a quasi-experimental one-group, pre-test and post-test research design. The sample consisted of 30 first-year medical students from Chulabhorn Royal Academy. The research instruments (IOC = 1.00) included: 1) The Social Engineer Idea Lab Card Set, which integrates Design Thinking, the SCAMPER technique, TRIZ theory, and Six Thinking Hats concept; 2) An assessment of creative skills across three dimensions based on Guilford’s framework; and 3) A comprehensive satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and paired t-tests. The findings revealed that: 1) The efficiency of the learning management using the Social Engineer Idea Lab Card Set (E1/E2) was 81.90/82.00, exceeding the 80/80 standard criterion; 2) The students' overall creative thinking skills after the intervention were significantly higher than before the intervention at the 0.01 level. Specifically, Originality showed the most significant improvement; and 3) The overall satisfaction of the students toward the learning management through the card set was at a high level (Mean = 4.03, S.D. = 0.81). The item with the highest satisfaction rating was that the card set helped them perceive problems from diverse and unconventional perspectives. In conclusion, the Idea Lab Card Set is a highly effective active learning tool for stimulating innovative thinking processes and can be concretely applied to develop essential social engineering skills among future medical professionals and innovators.
