Development and Movement of Thai Government and BRN Group in Peace Dialogue in Thailand’s Deep South DOI:

Abstract

This academic article is part of research on read between the lines to comprehend BRN’s actual purposes through deep south peace dialogue statements. The purpose of this article is to present the development and movement of the Thai government and the BRN group in the peace dialogue in Thailand’s Deep South, leads to analysis of the approach to resolve the issues in the Deep South through peace dialogue process between the Thai government and the BRN group, aiming to achieve peace in the region. In 2013, peace dialogue was officially initiated between representatives of the Thai government and the BRN group. Currently, the policy for resolving the problem in the deep south falls under the national security policy and plan for 2023-2027, issued by the National Security Council. This policy emphasizes the promotion of the peace dialogue process in the deep south. However, the process has lacked continuity due to political factors in both Thailand and Malaysia, as well as internal issues within the BRN group itself. As a result, no agreement has been reached. Nevertheless, the BRN group, which currently holds an advantage in the region, is attempting to pressure the Thai government into reopening negotiations, while the Thai government has yet to take any significant action to advance the peace dialogue process in the deep south.
