Background and Aims: The contemporary 21st-century labor market places equal importance on soft skills and professional competencies, particularly for vocational students entering real-world workplaces. Despite possessing adequate technical knowledge, many vocational students in Thailand continue to experience difficulties in workplace adaptation due to deficiencies in interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, emotional regulation, and understanding of others. These limitations present significant challenges to employers who increasingly seek workers with collaborative abilities, discipline, and positive attitudes alongside technical expertise. This academic article aims to explain the importance of interpersonal skills in enhancing vocational students’ readiness for employment and to explore the potential of Buddhist integration as a framework for developing these essential skills.
Methodology: The study adopts a conceptual and documentary analysis approach, integrating theories of human relations and labor market skill requirements with Buddhist principles. Key teachings, including the Four Sanghavatthu, the Four Brahmavihāras, mindfulness, and Yoniso Manasikāra, are examined and linked to vocational education learning processes such as reflection, group activities, moral training, and simulated workplace situations.
Results: The analysis indicates that integrating Buddhist principles into vocational education effectively supports both internal and external learner development. These principles promote positive social behavior, empathy, constructive communication, emotional self-regulation, and thoughtful decision-making—core components of emotional intelligence required in modern workplaces. As a result, learners demonstrate improved communication skills, teamwork, responsibility, and positive attitudes toward collaboration.
Conclusion: Buddhist integration is a highly appropriate and effective approach for developing interpersonal skills among vocational students. By fostering professional competence alongside morality, emotional intelligence, and quality interpersonal interactions, this approach enhances learners’ readiness for the labor market and provides a strong foundation for sustainable employment in the future.
