Abstract

Background and Aims: This study aimed to investigate: (1) the levels of opinion regarding the factors influencing the decision-making of youth in Maha Sarakham Province when selecting Members of Parliament (MPs) for Constituency 3; (2) the factors affecting youth decision-making in voting for MPs in Constituency 3; and (3) recommendations concerning the factors influencing youth voting decisions in Maha Sarakham Province.

Methodology: This quantitative research employed a sample of 392 youths in Maha Sarakham Province, selected using Taro Yamane’s sampling formula. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, frequencies, and standard deviations, as well as logistic regression analysis to determine the predictive power of key variables in voting decisions.

Results: (1) The overall level of opinions regarding factors influencing voting decisions for MPs in Constituency 3 among youth in Maha Sarakham Province was found to be high. (2) The analysis revealed that candidate policy platforms, candidate competence, personal relationships with the candidate, and campaign activities collectively predicted youth voting decisions for MPs in Maha Sarakham Province at 72.10 percent, with statistical significance at the .05 level. (3) Recommendations indicated that youth voting decisions are shaped by multiple determinants, particularly policy proposals addressing educational challenges, employment creation, digital skill development, and local development. Candidates who present clear, feasible, and youth-centered policy platforms, coupled with opportunities for youth political participation, are more likely to gain trust and support. Additionally, candidates' knowledge, professional competence, and accessible communication skills enhance their credibility. Although reputation and image are not primary determinants, they should reflect integrity, transparency, and demonstrable achievements. Creative campaign strategies, strong community ties, credible local influencers, policy-driven motivation, and sustained engagement with youth further increase the likelihood of electoral support.

Conclusion: Youth in Maha Sarakham Province expressed a high level of opinion toward factors influencing their voting decisions for MPs in Constituency 3. Policy platforms, candidate competence, personal relationships, and campaign activities significantly predicted youth voting decisions, accounting for 72.10 percent of the variance at the .05 significance level. Overall, youth decision-making depends on clear and feasible policy proposals, opportunities for political participation, candidates’ competence and communication skills, as well as creative and continuous campaign engagement.
