Abstract

Background and Aims: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) mental well-being program in a group of volunteers from various occupations. The conceptual framework incorporates the ACT components of acceptance, defusion, being present, self as context, values, and committed action. These activities were designed to enhance mental well-being across six dimensions: autonomy, adaptability, personal growth, positive relationships with others, purpose in life, and self-acceptance.

Methodology: This study utilized a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 15 volunteers from various occupations. The research instruments consisted of 1) Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale (RSPWB) and 2) an ACT-based mental well-being program, which included eight activities.

Results: This study analyzed the results using a Paired Samples t-test. The findings revealed that the volunteers’ psychological well-being scores after participating in the program were significantly higher in all dimensions than before participation (p < .05). Using the Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) concept, it was demonstrated that a program developed from the six ACT concepts—acceptance, defusion, being present, self as context, value and committed action—effectively promotes mental well-being and improves mental health.

Conclusion: The Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) mental well-being enhancement program contributes to the comprehensive development of individual mental well-being across various dimensions. The program proved to be effective and showed great potential for application in promoting psychological well-being among diverse target groups.
