Abstract

Background and Aims: Morlam is a folk performing art that reflects the cultural identity of the Isan people, which has been developed and adapted to the times, especially “Practice Morlam”, which combines folk and modern music to meet the entertainment needs of today’s audiences. The “Bua Rim Bueng Rung Lam Plearn” Morlam troupe is therefore an important case study in linking local wisdom with the creation of contemporary dance innovations. This is to study the performance style of the Bua Rim Bueng Rung Lam Plearn Morlam troupe in Paeng Subdistrict, Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Province, and to integrate it with teaching and promotion of mobile arts and culture, leading to the creation of innovative Isan folk dance in the “Lam Plearn Ra Rerng Rom” set via online systems.

Methodology: This research used qualitative research methodology by collecting data from documents, textbooks, related research, field observations, and in-depth interviews with community experts, artists, and executives of the Morlam troupe, including content analysis to synthesize data and create innovative performances.

Results: The results found that the form of performance and accompanying music of the Morlam performance that has been developed and changed is called "Applied Morlam", which is a continuation of the current social and cultural changes. Morlam audiences who emphasize speed, fun, and entertainment, the most important thing is to bring the performance form of the Luk Thung band to the performance in a mixed way, such as having a singer sing Luk Thung songs or bringing popular string songs to sing, having a backing dancer or dancers, including the musical instruments used in composing the songs, which include Isan folk instruments mixed with Western instruments. It is divided into 2 main groups: the group of musical instruments that act as rhythm and the group of musical instruments that lead as melodies. Therefore, the researcher sees the value and importance of the art and culture of the Isan Morlam performance, which will result in knowledge for the benefit of integrating knowledge and promoting local wisdom arts and culture by using the concept of the art and culture of the Morlam performance of the Buarim Bueng Rung Lam Plearn troupe to enhance and create a new performance, Lam Plearn Ra Rerng Rom. This leads to the promotion of traveling arts and culture through the integration of research, teaching, and innovation, which can be widely and sustainably applied. The researcher would like to propose the following guidelines for applying the research results: 1. Developing a learning kit or online lessons (e-Learning) so that students or interested persons can learn by themselves. 2. Organizing workshops or practical training projects in the community to present knowledge about contemporary Morlam performances, creating pride in the locality. 3. Using the research results to support projects requesting funding from the government or private sector to develop folk art into intellectual property with economic value.

Conclusion: The “Lam Plearn Ra Rerng Rom” series of works is an example of an innovative folk art performance that perfectly combines tradition with digital technology. It can effectively convey the Isan cultural identity to the youth and the public, and opens up opportunities for learning and passing it on through online channels broadly and sustainably.
