Factors Affecting the Performance of the Village Committees in Wapipathum District, Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract

Background and Aims: Community development and strengthening of local village committees are important mechanisms for driving public policies to achieve success at the community level. (1) To study the level of performance of duties according to the roles of village committees in Wapipathum District, Maha Sarakham Province; (2) To study the factors affecting the performance of duties according to the roles of village committees in Wapipathum District, Maha Sarakham Province; and (3) To provide recommendations on the factors affecting the performance of duties according to the roles of village committees in Wapipathum District, Maha Sarakham Province.

Methodology: Quantitative research was used. The sample group was 362 village committees in Wapipathum District, Mahasarakham Province. The Taro Yamane formula was used. The research instruments were questionnaires. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, frequency, and standard deviation. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the factors affecting the performance of the village committees in Wapipathum District, Mahasarakham Province.

Results: (1) The level of performance of the village committees in Wapipathum District, Mahasarakham Province, was at a high level overall. (2) Factors affecting the performance of the village committees in Wapipathum District, Mahasarakham Province were factors related to the knowledge and ability of the village committees. The factors of village committee unity, the factor of public participation, the factor of promotion and support from supervisors, and the factor of volunteerism for local development, with a multiple correlation coefficient of .587, can jointly explain 58.7 percent of the variation with statistical significance at the .05 level, And (3) Recommendations: Village committees should receive training and develop knowledge about laws and roles and responsibilities to perform their duties correctly. In addition, leaders should promote unity through activities such as sports competitions and training that emphasize skill development, as well as support the participation of various groups in the community to make activities comprehensive and diverse. The government should provide welfare such as medical expenses, children's tuition fees, and rewards to motivate work. In addition, volunteer activities should be organized to clean the village and support the conservation of culture and traditions to create pride and connect relationships in the community.

Conclusion: The performance of village committees in Wapipathum District, Maha Sarakham Province, is at a high level overall. The important factors that affect the performance are knowledge, skills, unity, public participation, support from supervisors, and volunteerism for local development, which can explain 58.7 percent of the variation significantly. The recommendation is to organize training to enhance knowledge and review roles and responsibilities. This includes promoting unity and participation of various groups. In addition, the government should provide welfare and rewards, as well as promote volunteer activities and cultural conservation to create pride and relationships in the community.
