Background and Aims: In an era of rapid change known as the "VUCA World" (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity), educational administrators must possess special skills and attributes that enable effective educational operations to respond to the challenges of the digital world and rapidly changing technology. Therefore, this article aims to present a synthesis of concepts regarding the characteristics of educational administrators in the VUCA era, leading to effective approaches for applying digital technology in teaching and learning.
Methodology: This study involves a review of relevant academic documents, followed by an analysis and synthesis based on the study's objectives, employing a descriptive presentation method.
Results: The VUCA era is a time when the world faces uncertainty and unpredictable events, particularly driven by rapid technological advancements. The characteristics of educational administrators in the VUCA era for applying digital technology in teaching and learning consist of various factors. Based on a literature review, the researcher has categorized these characteristics into six key attributes: (1) agility in learning, (2) vision, (3) teamwork competence, (4) self-confidence, (5) the ability to set shared goals, and (6) the ability to prioritize crises. If educational administrators possess these attributes, they will be able to effectively and efficiently apply digital technology in teaching and learning during this disruptive era. This, in turn, will benefit teachers and students by enabling them to develop their technological skills and adapt appropriately to technological changes.
Conclusion: In the VUCA era, educational administrators must continuously adapt to change and embrace digital technology as an integral part of school management. Besides having technological knowledge, they must also be leaders who can foster a culture of innovative, flexible learning and make data-driven decisions. This enables them to effectively implement digital technology in teaching and learning, responding appropriately to the changes in today's world.
