ภาคแสดงมีบทบาทอย่างมากในโครงสร้างของประโยคหากปราศจากภาคแสดงแล้วผู้อ่านหรือผู้ที่เราสื่อสารด้วยจะไม่เข้าใจว่าประธานทำอะไร ครอบครองอะไรหรืออยู่ในสภาพเช่นไร ในบางภาษา อาทิ ภาษาอังกฤษหากปราศจากภาคแสดงแล้วประโยคที่สมบูรณ์ไม่สามารถก่อรูปได้ เพื่อที่จะเห็นภาพกว้างของภาคแสดงในภาษาได้อย่างชัดเจน บทความวิชาการนี้ต้องการศึกษาภาคแสดงในภาษาจีนและภาษาอังกฤษโดยเน้นที่โครงสร้างทางไวยากรณ์มากกว่าในเชิงความหมายหรือการใช้เนื่องจากเมื่อเริ่มเรียนภาษาต่างประเทศผู้เรียนจะเริ่มเรียนภาษาจากโครงสร้างไวยากรณ์ก่อน นอกจากนี้บทความนี้ยังนำเสนอความเหมือนและความต่างของภาคแสดงของทั้งสองภาษา ในส่วนสุดท้ายของบทความมีข้อเสนอแนะแก่ครูผู้สอนในเรื่องการใช้โครงสร้างไวยากรณ์ในภาษาที่สองในห้องเรียนโดยเน้นที่ภาษาจีนสำหรับผู้ที่เริ่มเรียนภาษา
