THE ROLE IN TEACHING OF CHAO SUNTORN NA CHIANGMAI

Abstract

Chao Sunthorn Na ChiangMai was born and raised by the ruler family of ChiangMai Kingdom. Therefore, he had an opportunity to learn Thai classical music since its publicizing started by Chao Dara Rasmi. While serving her as a chamberlain, Chao Dara Rasmi gave Chao Sunthorn a chance to learn Thai music inside the royal palace. Besides, Chao Sunthorn was thought by his father to play Lanna traditional music, so he had absorbed it ever since. As a result, he became an expert at both of Thai classical and traditional music. Additionally, he created many pieces of work in other fields so that he was awarded the Great Traditional Artist (Performing Art, Music) in 1985.

          Chiang Mai School of Dramatic Arts invited Chao Sunthorn Na ChiangMai, a professional in Lanna Music, to be an instructor for music students. Thus, his role of teacher had started since 1971. Chao Sunthorn Na ChiangMai was an instructor who always helped students with his love and empathy. Also, he was a great giver who offered knowledge and opportunities to his learners. In terms of guidance and teaching, Chao Sunthorn Na ChiangMai never hesitated to put his effort to students. He passed the entire knowledge to students very evidently and dedicated himself to music transmission for students constantly. He could be realized completely as a role model of good behaviors, ways to live a good life as well as knowledge transmissions.
