The Development of English Communication Listening and Speaking Abilities for Prathomsuksa 5 Students by The Total Physical Response

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop English listening abilities, 2) to develop English Speaking abilities of Prathomsuksa 5 Students to pass the criteria 80 percent, and 3) to study Assertive Behavior of students who learned by The Total Physical Response. The target group was 10 Prathomsuksa 5 students. Research instruments included; 7 plans for 14 hours in learning by The Total Physical Response, English listening and speaking abilities test, and Assertive Behavior evaluation Form. Action research approach used in this study composed of 3 cycles, the first cycle used lesson plans 1 and 2, the second cycle used lesson plans 3, 4 and 5, and the third cycle used lesson plans 6 and 7. The statistics used for analyzing the collected data were percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results of the study were as follows: each cycle of developing English Communication Listening Speaking and Assertive Behavior Abilities by The Total Physical Response to pass the criteria 80 percent. The first cycle, 7 students passed the criteria. Students were afraid to speak English and mispronounced English words. The second cycle, 8 students passed the criteria. Students understood and be familiar with English vocabulary increasingly. The last cycle, 10 students passed the criteria. They could connect what the researchers described and compared with the values of their own group work that was validated.
