Abstract

Obesity is one of the recent important health problems in the world. The trend of the obesity problem in Thailand has been higher in the last many years, especially in adolescents. The adolescent has rapid physical and mental changes from childhood to adulthood. Bad health behaviors may lead to obesity and the progression of obesity-related diseases in the future. The objective of this paper is to review obesity in adolescents, causals, effects, health promotion principles, as well as the prevention and care of obese adolescents. Health promotion in adolescents requires cooperation and coordination among every part of the society, together with raising people’s awareness of obesity as a health problem that must be solved. This will promote quality of life and improve the quality of adult manpower in the country.
