Abstract

The purposes of a study of monarchy in the Buddha’s Period were: 1) to study the history of the monarchy concept, and 2) to study the principles of the monarchy in the Buddha’s Period, From the studies, it was found that there were two important forms of government in the Buddha’s Period as follows: the monarchy and the unity. Of these, the monarchy was a popular form in the Buddha’s Period. The sole authority was given to the king. The monarchy in the Buddha’s Period indicated that in case of having a good leader who was good governor, it would affect to the happiness of people. On the other hand, the leader who was not a good governor, would bring their population to the suffering state.
