Abstract

This article is aimed on the purposes as follows : (1) to examine the attractive
factors for the tourists’ visit to the Chang-Kra (Rhynchostylis gigantea (Lindl.) Ridl) Wild
Orchid Park,Wat Pa Manchakhiri, Manchakhiri District, Khon Kaen Province (hereinafter
refers to as “the Chang-Kra Wild Orchid Park”), (2) to examine the development
potential of the Chang-Kra Wild Orchid Park to the ecotourism site, and (3) to
recommend the guideline for the development of the Chang-Kra Wild Orchid Park to
the ecotourism site. Structure of this article is based on the research using data
collected from the key informant consisted of 65 personnel concerning the tourism
development selected by the purposive sampling, and the content was analyzed by
the descriptive analysis method. Result of this study revealed; (1) the key attractive
factors of the tourists’ visiting to the Chang-Kra Wild Orchid Park which were : the
beauty and fertility of the orchid, the appropriate tourism management which
effectively conserve the environment and natural resources, as well as the provision of
knowledge towards the conservation of the orchid and natural resources. Furthermore,
(2) factors for the success of the potential development of Manchakhiri District in each
aspects were : A) the tourism promotion approaches by the government and Khon
Kaen Province (economic aspect), B) the outstanding leadership of the communities’
leaders (social aspect), C) the diversity of natural resources, cultural heritages, and
uniqueness of folklores (tourism resources aspect), D) the decentralization of power in
tourism management to the local governments. In addition, (3) recommendations for
the development of the Chang-Kra Wild Orchid Park to the ecotourism site were : the
development of the existing site concerning the elevation of its potential as the
ecotourism site, and the promotion of community–engaging efforts for the
management of ecotourism site in order to enhance their collaboration for the
prevention of negative impacts to the site which potentially exceed their management
capacity.
