Translation of Culturemas from Spanish to Thai in the Mexican Novel Pedro Páramo

Abstract
This research examines the translation techniques employed for cultureme or cultural terms from Spanish to Thai in the Mexican novel Pedro Páramo. The researcher found 131 cultural terms and analyzed the translation techniques employed for cultural terms based on Molina's theoretical framework. Nine translation techniques were identified, ranked from most to least frequent: borrowing (transcription) combined with other techniques, discourse creation, established equivalence, description, adaptation, calque, generalization, amplification, and reduction.
