Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the current situation of Chinese language teaching in Thailand’s Primary Education Service Area, with a focus on schools under the Khon Kaen Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. Using a combination of questionnaire and fieldwork methods, the study delves into eight aspects, including basic school conditions, teacher qualifications, curriculum, students’ Chinese language learning, use of teaching materials, teacher training, teaching facilities, and management practices. The research findings reveal significant variations among schools of different sizes in the educational service area, with shortages of qualified teachers, a pressing need for curriculum improvement, lack of motivation among students to learn Chinese, a lack of standardized syllabus, incomplete Chinese language teacher training, and areas for enhancement in teaching facilities and management. Based on these results, the study proposes recommendations to strengthen faculty capacity and improve teacher remuneration, develop a unified syllabus and optimize the curriculum, enhance publicity and guidance to stimulate student interest in learning, develop local teaching materials to offer diverse options, diversify teacher training to enhance pedagogical proficiency, and improve teaching management and facilities to promote comprehensive advancement and development of Chinese language education in Thailand's primary schools.
