A Study on Errors of the “Shi-sentence” of Thai Students Based on the “HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus”

Abstract
Shi-sentences are essential yet susceptible to errors in Modern Chinese. This study aims to investigate the occurrences of errors made by Thai students in using shi-sentences and to provide relevant teaching guidance. By collecting and screening shi-sentences written by Thai students from the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, these learners demonstrate a high error rate in using shi-sentences. Using error analysis theory, these errors were classified into five types. The main causes of these errors among Thai students were identified as negative transfer from the target language, negative transfer from the interlanguage, and the influence of the learning environment. To address these errors, two suggestions are proposed for Chinese teachers. firstly, to have a thorough understanding and explanation of the relevant knowledge points, and secondly, to enhance Chinese language learners’ analytical skills in sentence construction.
