This research article aimed: 1. To examine the level of job performance motivation among personnel at Chanthaburi Provincial Prison; 2. To investigate the relationship between the Five Principles of Ariyavaddhi 5 and job performance motivation among the personnel; and 3. To propose guidelines for applying Buddhist principles to enhance job performance motivation among personnel at Chanthaburi Provincial Prison. This study employed a mixed-methods research design. Quantitative data were collected from a sample of 70 participants using a questionnaire with an overall reliability coefficient of 0.947. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviewing 10 key informants.
The findings revealed that: 1. The overall level of motivation based on the Five Principles of Ariyavaddhi among prison personnel was high. Among the dimensions, Sīla, morality, showed the highest mean, followed by Samādhi, concentration, Sati, mindfulness and Paññā, wisdom, respectively. 2. There was a relatively strong positive correlation between the five principles of Ariyavaddhi and personnel motivation overall. When considered by dimension, the five principles of Ariyavaddhi were positively correlated with recognition needs, social needs, physiological needs, self-actualization needs, and safety needs, with statistically significant level at p = .01. 3. The proposed guidelines for applying Buddhist principles to enhance job performance motivation focused on five areas: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, recognition needs, and self-actualization needs. These were integrated with the five principles of Ariyavaddhi, namely: 1. Sattha, faith, 2. Sila, morality, 3. Sati, mindfulness, 4. Samadhi, concentration, and 5. Panna, wisdom. This integration of Buddhist principles with organizational management was appropriate and effective in fostering continuous work motivation among personnel and contributed to sustainable organizational development
