Abstract

Objectives of this research article were to study the influence of motivation and the marketing mix (7Ps) on the decision to use fitness center services in Thailand. The samples consisted of 388 fitness center users, obtained through convenience sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA).

The results showed that the marketing mix (7Ps) had a high positive influence on decision-making (β=0.679, p<0.001), while motivation had a moderate positive influence (β=0.254, p<0.001). When analyzed through the NCA technique, it was found that the marketing mix (7Ps) serves as a necessary condition, particularly in terms of process, place, and product, which acted as primary bottlenecks; if these do not reach the required standards, high-level decision-making will be obstructed, even if consumers have high motivation. Meanwhile, motivation is merely a driver that has a causal influence but is not an indispensable condition. These findings provided academic benefits by expanding the scope of understanding consumer behavior from a causal influence dimension to a necessary condition dimension (Necessary vs. Sufficient). For practitioners, entrepreneurs should prioritize building a service foundation (Must-have) in terms of process, place, and product first to prevent loss of market opportunities, while simultaneously using social image and rational motivation as supplementary strategies to attract customers effectively
