The research article is to: 1. To examine the current practices of production cost calculation in the business 2. To design an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) system and 3. To develop the internal control system of a micro restaurant enterprise. This study was a qualitative research approach, case study research of micro restaurant enterprise. The key informants consisted of three business owners and two employees, selected through purposefully selected based on their direct involvement in cost management. The research instruments included semi-structured in-depth-interviews script, behavioral observation forms, and Activity-Based Costing data recording forms. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using content analysis, including data coding from interviews, observations, and cost records. Subsequently, the data were analyzed and integrated with ABC to determine the cost structure of the business.
The research findings indicated that: 1. The business did not employ a formal production cost calculation system. It operated as a sole proprietorship, managed directly by the owner. There was no systematic accounting; only daily expense records were maintained. The procurement of raw materials and other items were based primarily on estimation and the owner’s experience. 2. The design of the Activity-Based Costing (ABC) system consisted of four stages: activity analysis, activity cost, calculation of activity cost rates, and product cost calculation. The results revealed that the average activity cost per bowl was 39.73 Baht for kao lao and 34.72 Baht for noodles. 3. For the development of the internal control system, the business should implement a verifiable and systematic record-keeping system, such as maintaining written purchase orders, preparing material requisition forms, and recording daily accounting transactions. In addition, regular monitoring of employees’ work performance should be conducted, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems should be installed to enhance security and reduce the risk of asset misappropriation.
