DEVELOPMENT OF THAI HOMESTAYS TOWARDS ASEAN HOMESTAY STANDARDS: BANWAN HOMESTAY, NAMKHAM SUBDISTRICT, MUEANG SISAKET DISTRICT, SISAKET PROVINCE

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were to study the potentials of Ban Wan Homestay and to propose development guidelines toward meeting the ASEAN Homestay Standards, conducted by the mixed-methods. The samples included 1. 35 representatives from the Ban Wan Homestay group, public sector, private sector, education sector, and tourists, and 2. 14 key informants, from members of the Ban Wan Homestay group and representatives from the public sector, private sector, and education sector. Purposive sampling was used to select samples. Data were collected using assessment forms and semi-structured in-depth-interview script. Data analysis using descriptive statistics and content descriptive analysis.

The research findings revealed that the overall evaluation of Ban Wan Homestay, in Part 1, scored 55.91 percent, which was considered Below Standard (with a passing threshold of ≥56.25%), with 45 indicators meeting the criteria and 17 indicators not meeting the criteria, and in Part 2, the evaluation of the accommodation scored 21percent, which was considered Meeting the Standard (with a passing threshold of ≥18.75%), as 25 indicators met the criteria and 4 indicators did not. The homestay has strengths in terms of the homestay group, accommodation, tourism activities, location, and economic sustainability. Areas for improvement included hygiene and cleanliness, environmental activities, management, marketing and promotion, safety in tourism activities, and social sustainability. To guide the development of Ban Wan Homestay toward the ASEAN Homestay Standard, the “HAMMSS” model was proposed, encompassing Hygiene and Cleanliness, Activities, Management, Marketing and Promotion, Safety and Security, and Sustainability.
