GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPMENT POLICEWOMEN’S CAREER PATH IN ROYAL THAI POLICE

Abstract

Objectives of this research were: 1. To study the guidelines for career development for female police officers in Thailand, 2. To study factors related to the guidelines for career development for female police officers in Thailand, conducted with the qualitative research methodology. using in-depth interviews. The data collection tool was a semi-structured in-depth-interview script interviewing key informants who were wenty-five female investigators graduated from the Royal Police Cadet Academy who had worked for at least five years. Data were analyzed by content descriptive interpretation.

The results of the research revealed that: 1. Regarding the career development of female police officers in Thailand, it was found that The Royal Thai Police has put in place a suitable job structure and a succession plan. Evaluation and rewards were not different from male police. There were no differences in performance assessment and development between female and male police officers. However, there was a clear guideline for laying out the position structure of female police officers at the Royal Thai Police at some level. 2. Relationship factor related to female police officers’ carreer path development consisted of additional education, changing career paths to the types of work ones like, marital status, work adjustments and types of work that are at risk and gender attitudes towards men and women.
