THE QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION BY USING THE STANDARDIZED TESTS FOR 8TH GRADE FINAL EXAM 2018

Objectives of this research were to assess academic achievements with standardized tests for 8th Grade final exam 2018 in the Thai language, Mathematics, Science, and foreign language (English language) among 432,967 8th Grade students selected with multi-stage random sampling.
The research instrument included standardized tests. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, norms, and classical test theory. The results showed that the students’ highest percentage average was found in Thai language. Most of the students had a fair level of quality in the Thai language, Mathematics, and Science. When classified by jurisdiction, students under the Higher Education Commission achieved the highest percentage average in all subjects. The extra-large schools had the highest percentage average in all subjects as well. When considering strands and standards, Strand 1: Reading, Standard TH1.1; Strand 5: Data Analysis and Probability, Standard MA5.2; Strand 1: Living Things and Life Processes, Standard SC1.1; and Strand 1: Language for Communication, Standard FL 1.1 are sections where the student obtained the highest percentage average. For tests with a complex format, the students received the highest scores in all four subjects. Regarding criteria set for determine the quality level of the students with T-score, the highest T-score average (47.92) was seen in Thai language, while the lowest average T-score (29.84) was seen in Mathematics. Overall, all the four learning areas were qualified in terms of difficulty index and discrimination index was appropriate and in accordance with the criteria. The reliability was within an acceptable range (0.66-0.85).
