KING CHULALONGKORN (RAMA V) DURING THE COLONIAL ERA

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were to study the political context during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) towards the colonization of British and French imperialism. As well as adjusting Siam political strategy the reign of King Rama V on the colonialism of British and French imperialism especially the conflicts arising from French colonialism during the 19th century and Siam mismanagement of political policies. This caused the relationship between the two countries to deteriorate steadily until it became the R.S. 112 Crisis historic event that created a crack in the Siam-French relationship. One event at most and this incident is often mentioned in order to create nationalist ideas like those of pre-World War II. However, this crisis this was an important factor that helped accelerate the rapid reform and development of the country at the end of the reign of King Chulalongkorn. This led to international recognition and helped Siam escape from being colonized by Western powers.
