The Development of Comprehensive Reading Ability of Prathomsuksa 5 Students Using KWL Technique Integrated With Exercises

Abstract

This research has objectives: 1) to compare ability in reading comprehension of students in the 5th Year of the Primary Education level, before and after managing learning with KWL Technique together with exercises; 2) to study points of views of the students in the 5th Year of the Primary Education level which manages learning KWL Technique in line with exercises.

            Samples groups employed in this research study are students in the 5th Year of the Primary Education, Sathukan Witthaya Secondary School, under Private Education Commission Office, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, total 40 students, and it is an experimental research study in one group, testing before and after learning.

            Research tools employed include Managing Learning Plan for Reading Comprehension with KWL Technique, Exercises for Reading Comprehension with KWL Technique for the 5th Year of Primary Education students, Tests for ability assessment in reading comprehension, and Questionnaires for survey of students’ points of view towards the ability development activities in reading comprehension of students in the 5th Year of the Primary Education, which manages learning KWL Technique in line with exercises. Data analyses apply percentage (%) value, average means (X), Standard Deviation (S.D.) and Dependent T-Test.

            Findings of the Research results: Ability in Reading Comprehension of students in the 5th Year of the Primary Education under learning management with KWL Technique in line with Exercises, post learning with Exercises ability is higher than prior learning, and is statistically, significantly different at 0.01 level. And Students have attitudes towards learning management with KWL Technique in line with Exercises, and overall picture is at a very good level.
