Model of Participation of Reading Habits Activity Supporting For Primary School

Abstract

          The objectives of this mixed-methods research aimed to 1) study the basic information related to the participation model of reading habits activity of elementary students 2) create and implement the participation model of reading habits activity and 3) evaluate the implementation of the model. Key informants were 14 school administrators, 20 teachers and 20 parents. Participants were 14 school administrators, 20 teachers, 76 parents and 76 elementary students fromSakolSuksa School andMaryWittayaSchool.Two experimental groups were3^rdgrade students of both schools.Instruments of this studywerein-depth interviews, questionnaires,questionnaires on reading habit,satisfaction questionnaires and reading habit activity plans.To analyze data usingthemean, standard deviation, percentage and content analysis.

            The research results were as follow : 1.The participation model of reading habits activity of elementary students consisted of (a) the participants were school administrators, teachers,students and parents. (b) reading habits activities of elementary students were the auditory stimulation activities, the optic nerve stimulation activities, the auditory and optic nerve stimulation activities and student  participation activities (c) creating a school climate and school’s physical environment and also at home. 2.The participation model of reading habits activities were 4 types, Type A: school administrators and teachers, Type B: teachers and students, Type C : students and parents and Type D: school administrators and parents. The school administrators, teachersand parents participated in the design of the activities.The school administrators and teachersparticipated in creating theschool climate and school’s physical environment. The parentsparticipated in creating the climate and physical environment at home. The reading habit activity plans were Math Bingo Game, Government Lottery,UsingaThaiDictionary,Folklore.Reading.in.EnglishandLearntheDifferentKinds of Nouns inThai.The students who participated in the activities had overall increase their average.   3.The school administrators had the highest satisfaction for the reading habit activities. Teachers, students and parents of both school had overall satisfactionat the high level.Key success on the reading habits wereinstructional media and motivation.
