The Development of Handbooks on the Murals of the Temples of Suphanburi to Promote Access to the Arts in Traditional Thai Paintings

Abstract

The objectives of the study are 1) To develop handbooks on the murals of the temple of  Suphanburi in order to promote access to the arts in traditional Thai paintings.  2) To study the accessing in traditional Thai paintings of the people who use the handbooks. 3) To study satisfaction of people who use the handbooks on the murals of the temple of Suphanburi. The data collecting process gathers information from 1) young people 2) adult people 3) elderly people by using the accidental sampling method.

          Research techniques uses 1) Interview forms for the specialist on the murals of the temple. 2) The handbooks on the murals of the temple of Suphanburi. 3) The evaluation forms of the handbooks on the murals of the temple of Suphanburi.  4) Interview forms of visiting the murals arts in traditional Thai paintings. 5) The evaluation forms on opinion of visiting the murals arts in traditional Thai paintings.  6) The satisfaction forms of visiting the murals of the temple in Suphanburi.   

The results show;

1.The developed handbooks on the murals of Norbhuddhangkul temple and Pratusarn temple in Suphanburi, for promoting access to traditional Thai paintings, were qualified as good by the specialists.

2.The opinion on accessing of traditional Thai paintings of young, adult and elderly people are

          2.1 The main purpose of entering ubosot is to visit murals arts and the murals are impressive. The visitors interested in pattern of painting and story behind the murals. However, the obstacles of accessing the arts is lacking of understanding on visiting murals arts and unable to understand “arts language”.  The purpose of visiting murals in ubosot, especially in 3rd room of Norbhuddhangkul temple and 5th room of Pratusarn temple, is its reputation and the visitor satisfied with the handbooks.

          2.2 The attitude test shows that visitors agreed to use the handbooks.

3.The people’s satisfaction on using handbooks of Norbhuddhangkul temple and Pratusarn temple, the result shows that people is agree to use the handbooks.
