The main purpose of this article was to analyze the structure of the hortatory discourse in Thai Islamic sermon books collected from eight volumes of Thai Islamic sermon books written by Yakoop Thuamrathom. The statistics used in the analysis were percentage and mean. The study found that the main structures of the Thai hortatory discourse in the Islamic sermons consisted of 3 parts: opening, body, and closing. The opening consisted of 2 parts: greeting and introduction. The former was not found in some sermons while the latter was found in all of them. The body of each sermon could be divided into 1-6 parts and each comprised references to Allah’s verses and/or Prophet Muhammad’s words, followed by explanations by the Islamic preacher, Yakoop Thuamprathom. References always appeared in the sermons while explanations were optional. Two types of closing were found: with and without the preacher’s expectation.
